In the past couple of days, I have spent a good bit of time mingling with people from the BDSM side of the fence. Now, I've never had a problem with BDSM, in the slightest sense. . . . . . every man to his own. However, I don't have a deep-seated BDSM side. . . . . . I don't like pain, pain doesn't like me. . . . . . we have a wary, mutual respect of each other. My submission side runs a good bit deeper, but it's difficult for me to express, and it takes a VERY special person to tap into it. . . . . . . and I'm thankful to say that I have the best person possible to explore that with.
There is a constant interplay of power in a gathering of BDSM minded folks, and the respect of relationships absolutely astounds me. There are VERY clear, uncrossable boundaries when it comes to who belongs to who, and in what capacity. There are tiers of power in place. Sometimes, someone might be submissive to this person, but not this one, and that's perfectly ok. All of these relationships are unspoken, yet clearly visible. It would make an absolutely amazing sociology project, one that I might look into at some point in time.
